Here are some updates since our last email exchange:

Discrepancy Letters
The PA SBOP has started to send discrepancy letters to students who submitted their application. The PA SBOP system automatically generates a discrepancy letter approximately 30 days after submission. Don’t be alarmed if you receive a letter, but you need to read it over carefully and take action (in some cases). There should be only a few things that the PA SBOP will indicate are missing: Education Verification, Examination (NAPLEX and MPJE), Intern Hours, and Opioid CE. Three of the four items are the responsibility of the school; however, the PA SBOP does not permit the school to certify your education and opioid CE greater than 30 days prior to graduation. We mailed the education verification (with includes your intern hours) and the opioid CE forms April 1st and they have been received by the board. You do not need to take any further steps at this time, unless the board listed other items on your checklist that need clarification (e.g. missing license verification, errors with background check).

NABP Registration
Some things to keep in mind as you prepare to register:

  * Be sure that your name matches on the SBOP and NABP websites as well as on your acceptable primary and secondary forms of identification to sit for the exams. See the attached NABP 2021 Bulletin for more information on name matching guidelines (pages 9-10).
  * There are discounts available for members of the armed forces and their spouses. See the attached NABP 2021 Bulletin for more information (pages 22-23).
  * If you would like to request testing accommodations under the ADA, there is an additional form that must be completed and uploaded to the NABP. In states in which the NABP confirms eligibility (e.g. Florida), the accommodation form and documentation must be uploaded during the application process. The testing accommodation request will be evaluated by the appropriate board of pharmacy first, and then forwarded to the NABP for review. See the attached NABP 2021 Bulletin for more information (page 7).

Authorization to Administer Injectables Clarification:

The PA Injectables license cannot be processed without the PA Pharmacist license. You do not need to forward the Certificate of Education for Injectables form to me as you should have completed the APhA program through the University of Pittsburgh. The most important part of the certificate is a valid issued date as the certificate is only valid for PA licensure for 24 months. The PA SBOP will require periodic continuing education after your license is issued to keep it up to date.

Professional Liability Insurance Clarification:
If you plan to apply for an Authorization to Administer Injectables license whether for PA in conjunction with your Pharmacist license or in another state (if applicable), you will need to purchase professional liability insurance. You do not need to get the insurance right away, but you will need to have it when you are licensed. The company that many students go through is Healthcare Providers Service Organization (HPSO). HPSO website - http://www.hpso.com/individuals/professional-liability/pharmacist-professional-liability-insurance<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hpso.com%2Findividuals%2Fprofessional-liability%2Fpharmacist-professional-liability-insurance&data=04%7C01%7Crx2021%40list.pitt.edu%7C49bf2d5f4f0a45d4414308d8f85774ec%7C9ef9f489e0a04eeb87cc3a526112fd0d%7C1%7C0%7C637532401789154262%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=2brEdR4EHwVYZZamDx0G3jOTPrdb%2FukamZ4MqNnpiys%3D&reserved=0>. You do not need to complete the Certification of Professional Liability Insurance Form for the PA SBOP at this time.

Please feel free to contact me or Professor Skledar should you need anything further.
