Subject: FW: Grant Writing Coaching Groups study - January cohort deadline extended!

Colleagues,

I am one of the Co-Investigators of this study, based at the University of Utah, funded through the NIH National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN) effort. I want to make sure everyone knows the deadline for application to the next cohort has been extended to Monday, September 27! This is the 5th cohort since the study began in 2020. Due to the pandemic, all of the sessions are conducted virtually. Briefly, participants meet bi-weekly for 5-6 months in groups of 4-5 with a faculty Coach who has been successful at obtaining research grants and has been trained in the group method. The study is a randomized trial comparing 4 different group process designs. It is not a typical 'controlled' design, where some individuals receive no coaching, since the benefit of grant writing coaching groups has already been established.

Participation in the study is open to faculty and advanced postdoctoral fellows who have not yet received NIH R01-level funding. Participants can be working on NIH K or R-type proposals, or equivalent for other agencies, and will be actively writing their proposals in the January-June, 2022, timeframe. All of the details of the study and a link to the application can be found here: https://nrmnet.net/university-of-utah-nrmn-u01/<https://nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fnrmnet.net%2Funiversity-of-utah-nrmn-u01%2F&data=04%7C01%7Cweisz%40pitt.edu%7C53a69e826ce545c1d60d08d978683525%7C9ef9f489e0a04eeb87cc3a526112fd0d%7C1%7C0%7C637673211219014466%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=Maq%2FNtD2LMogNDSTpjJnuO7qlqBky4vs24mNb1ySXFs%3D&reserved=0>

I would be happy to answer any questions you might have about the study. Please pass this along to any of your faculty and advanced fellows you think could benefit from this highly effective grant writing process. In addition to coming away with a successful submission, they will come away with a wealth of new knowledge and skills in grant writing they will be able to apply to future proposals.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Rick McGee
