Victor Dzau, MD, president of the NAM, co-wrote a perspective in NEJM calling on leaders in academic medicine to commit to a systemwide change of culture and climate to prevent sexual harassment and communicate to faculty, administration, students, and trainees that sexual harassment will not be tolerated. The perspective also touched on the recommendations from the NASEM report on sexual harassment and elaborated on ways institutional leaders can create a social climate that reduces and prevents harassment.

Another perspective in NEJM co-written by Esther Choo, MD, MPH, and Dara Kass, MD, also commented on the NASEM report and highlighted the inadequacy of medicine's current approach to mitigating the widespread inequity and harassment of women. Dr. Choo is an associate professor of emergency medicine at the OHSU School of Medicine, and Dr. Kass is an assistant professor at Columbia University Medical Center.

The piece also describes recommendations and organizational efforts at a national level to address harassment.
