Subject: Call for Nominations - 2016 Marshall W Webster Physician Leadership and Management Certificate Program
The Physician Services Division and the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business have again collaborated on the development of a Physician Leadership and Management Certificate Program. This program will begin in mid-September, 2016 and is based on the current "Mini-MBA" program in the Katz Executive Education MBA Program. The program has been designed to provide your physician cadre with knowledge of business practices, current trends and developments as well as new strategies.
Classes will be taught by top faculty - respected scholars who are active in the business community through consulting and other engagements and who bring the relevance of these experiences to the classroom. Each of the Katz faculty members will partner with a UPMC Senior Executive Staff member so that the course materials are relevant to our environment. Many of our Senior Executives will additionally be available as mentors and preceptors during the program.
In past years, we reached out directly to our physicians for self-nomination. This year, we are asking that each of you identify one-two physician in your department/practice that you believe would be best suited for the program and gain the most from this experience.
The 2016 class will be comprised of 35 physicians who we hope will represent a wide variety of expertise and experiences.
Who Should Attend:
* Individuals who need to learn basic business concepts, skills and vocabulary in order to communicate and work more effectively
* Individuals with some managerial experience who need a better understanding of basic business concepts and the skills to provide them on the job
* Individuals who face increasing management responsibilities but may not have a formal business or management background
* Individuals who are willing to commit to and actively participate in the program
The Objectives of Our Program:
* To significantly enhance individual and organizational performance
* To enable our physicians to tie functional areas together in order to learn how to increase revenue, control expenses and promote clinical productivity
* To enable our physicians to communicate and work more effectively with their colleagues, and the staff and hospital management teams
* To provide an understanding of the most important managerial concepts for your specialty area
* To help our physicians develop basic management skills that will enable them to apply what they are learning to their current position
* To provide leadership skills for those interested in improving current abilities or assuming leadership roles in future
All classes will take place at the University Club. The University Club is located at 123 University Avenue. Parking will be available across the street at the Soldiers and Sailors Parking Garage
Winter Term coursework will begin with a kick-off networking session in early September. Classes will be held from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and a light dinner will be provided at each session. There is no cost to your Department or Practice to participate in this program.
Please provide the following information to my office, Suite 300, Forbes Tower, by the close of business on Friday, April 15:
* current curriculum vitae of the candidate
* your letter of support for the candidate
