Lavender Graduation at the University of Pittsburgh is a cultural event for the University to recognize and acknowledge the achievements and contributions of LGBTQIA+ students of all races and ethnicity. The time-honored tradition is a celebration of unique journey many LGBTQIA+ face during their time in higher education. The first Lavender Graduation in the United States began at the University of Michigan in 1995, with three graduates. By 2001, there were over 45 Lavender Graduation Ceremonies at Colleges and Universities nationwide. This year’s occasion at the University of Pittsburgh is marked by the participation of students, residents, and trainees across the University of Pittsburgh System and will be hosted by the Pitt Queer Professionals (PQP) with co-sponsorship from the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (OEDI), and the Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the Health Sciences.

Students, if you may be interested in attending Lavender Graduation, please register by March 31, 2021 in order to receive cords. If you are a faculty, staff, or student who is not graduating and would like to attend the event as a viewer, you can also RSVP.
