[Womeninmedicine] small success story

Dear Colleagues,

Stemming from the articles Ora sent which highlight the fact that fewer females are invited to present Grand Rounds in various clinical departments, I crunched our numbers here in Cardiology:
~25% of Cardiology clinical fellows are female
~20% of Cardiology faculty are female (this includes UPP only, dual UPP & Pitt, and HVI/VMI faculty)
<5% of our Grand Rounds speakers are female (from the last 3 academic years).

I brought this up with our Chair of Cardiology, Joon Lee, and he was extremely enthusiastic and supportive of making an active effort to invite a more diverse group of speakers to our Grand Rounds, and he personally sent a list of potential invitees to the organizers of our Grand Rounds.

I highly encourage others in male-dominated clinical departments to do the same; my guess is that the idea will be received with similar success.

Best regards,
Cindy
