?I meant to send this link to an article<http://www.utimes.pitt.edu/?p=39454> that contained a list of department chair salaries. The list of top earners was published in Pittsburgh newspapers. However, The University Times at Pitt published a longer list of department chairs. Why, I am not sure. But the list shows that the lowest compensation by UPMC for a male department head is roughly $70K less than the compensation by UPMC listed for a female department chair. Obviously a much greater difference than the $20K reported in the NYTimes article about "prominent public" med schools.
