New Report on State of Women in Academic Medicine

The AAMC is pleased to announce a new publication, The State of Women in Academic Medicine: The Pipeline and Pathways to Leadership Report, 2013–2014<http://echo4.bluehornet.com/ct/51806329:28608967914:m:1:1612440353:D346561FBD21D4E17780ED0943337490:r>. A redesigned version of the biennial Women in U.S. Academic Medicine: Statistics and Medical School Benchmarking Report, the publication offers detailed statistics on the proportion of women throughout academic medicine—from learner and faculty ranks through the pipeline to leadership. While academic medical centers are working toward increasing diversity at various levels, this report reveals that women continue to be underrepresented in key rank and leadership positions. At the learner level, the number of women applying to medical school has continued to drop over the past 10 years. To address these continued challenges, this report includes a guide for advancing women faculty in medical schools, as well as keys to help them succeed, an overview of medical school resources to support women faculty, a 10-year comparison of women in leadership positions, and other resources.

Additional highlights include:

  * Departmental snapshots for women residents and faculty
  * Longitudinal data to identify trends over the past five and 10 years
  * Suggestions for institutions to promote equitable environments
  * Best practices from the community and scholarship to take action at your school
  * A new benchmarking tool that allows institutions to present the report's findings and use the 2013-2014 benchmarking tables to compare their schools to the national average

To view the report, download the benchmarking tables, and explore the benchmarking tool, please visit www.aamc.org/members/gwims/statistics<http://echo4.bluehornet.com/ct/51806330:28608967914:m:1:1612440353:D346561FBD21D4E17780ED0943337490:r>.
