Each year, distinguished individuals within the pharmacy field are recognized, and this time, Pitt alums Dr. Yardlee Kauffman and Dr. David Johnson will return with the topic of “Living Life on Purpose: Career Satisfaction Demystified”. Our speakers have experience in a variety of career tracks, and they are excited to share their life experiences with student pharmacists.

David Johnson, PharmD, BCPS is a medical science liaison in the neurology group of Alexion Pharmaceuticals. Prior to Alexion, Dr. Johnson was a practicing abdominal organ transplant pharmacist for 10 year, spending the first part of his career at Temple University Hospital and the Temple School of Pharmacy and finishing his career at the Penn Transplant Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Johnson has a BA in neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania and received his PharmD at the University of Michigan, College of Pharmacy. He completed his post-doctoral transplant training at UPMC where he also met his wife and co-resident, Dr. Yardlee Kauffman.

Yardlee Kauffman, PharmD, MPH, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Pharmacy in 2010. She subsequently completed a PGY1 community practice residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and a PGY2 residency in Ambulatory Care with an emphasis in underserved care and global health at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. She earned a Masters of Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health in 2012 and completed an outcomes research fellowship at Kaiser Permanente Colorado in 2014. Additionally, she is board certified in ambulatory care pharmacy and public health.
Dr. Kauffman is passionate about increasing pharmaceutical access and providing care to vulnerable populations, both locally and globally, as well as creating and advancing opportunities for pharmacists and students in global health. She previously held an appointment as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy.
Dr. Kauffman currently works for the international, humanitarian, medical organization, Médecins Sans Frontières, (MSF; Doctors without Borders) as mission pharmacist. She has completed assignments in South Sudan, Sierra Leone, and is currently supporting COVID-19 activities in Kenya.
