Hello P3s,

Now that your 2020-21 APPE rotations are finalized, there are a few important pieces of information that you need to start thinking about. There will be a mandatory APPE Rotation Orientation session in early April, but before that session, there are items to begin doing. Please read below and begin your preparations for a successful APPE year!

2020-21 APPE Rotation Key Information:

  *   APPE Orientation Sessions:
     * Friday, April 3rd from 1pm-3:30pm (Room 456 Salk): MANDATORY for all P3 students – “Orientation to APPEs”
     * Friday, April 3rd from 12n-1pm (Room 524 Salk): recommended for all P3s who are going on international APPEs – “International APPE Orientation”
        * See the handout, “Study Abroad Office – Instructions”, posted on eValue Home Page under “Specialized APPE Information” as guidance for the steps you’ll need to take.

§ Travel advisories and cautions are posted on these websites:

·         CDC: https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices

· US Department of State: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories.html/

·         Pitt Study Abroad: https://www.abroad.pitt.edu/

  *   CastleBranch (CB) requirements:
     * In order to attend your sites, your CB account and all requirements must be current and complete. You will be receiving an e-mail notice in mid-March with instructions to renew your CB account.
  *   Site requirements:
     * Required site prerequisites and clearances are listed in eValue under “Site Requirements” for each specific site
     * The Home Page of eValue has Allegheny Health Network and UPMC requirements, since these are two of our most-frequented sites
     * Please check all of your sites ahead of time to map out what you need to do
     * If you are unclear on site requirements, please contact Ms. Schmotzer to help
  *   Contacting preceptors:
     * You are required to reach out to your preceptors at least four weeks prior to the start of each rotation to check-in with them and find out first-day logistics and rotation expectations.
     * Some sites (eg. VA facilities, military bases) may need you to contact them 6-8 weeks ahead to complete necessary paperwork or training
  *   Intern licenses:
     * If you are doing your rotation outside of Pennsylvania, you may need a pharmacy intern license in that state
     * The Home Page of eValue has a list of “States that Require Intern Licenses for Rotations” under “Forms and Reference Tools” on the right side of the page

Thank you,

Prof. Skledar
