Hi everyone,

Pitt CPNP is looking to host a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training session, available to all PittPharmacy students.

Mental Health First Aid is a course that teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis. Topics covered in the course include: depression, anxiety disorders, trauma, psychosis, and substance use disorders. At the end of the course you will receive a MHFA certificate.

If this is something you're interested in, please fill out the attached interest form by Friday, February 7th. This will help us to gauge your interest and availability.

Did you know? An estimated 26% of Americans ages 18 and older – about 1 in 4 adults – suffers from a diagnosable mental disorder. Roughly half of all mental disorders begin by age 14 and three-quarters begin by age 24, though many are undiagnosed and untreated. Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In the MHFA course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help. Topics covered in the course include: depression and mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, psychosis, substance use disorders.
