Hello P3s,

Our new faculty member, Dr. Alexis Gaggini, has established a P4 APPE rotation at UPMC Horizon /Shenango Valley, that is an acute care/family medicine (FM) APPE. The rotation would involve pharmacokinetics, medication management (anticoagulation, diabetes, antibiotics), and also include an ambulatory care clinic experience. The student would work with Dr. Gaggini within the Family Medicine Residency program for medical student/resident education as well. This UPMC site is near in proximity to UPMC Jameson Hospital, in New Castle, which also is offering both acute care (internal medicine; IM; Dr. Ergen) and hospital APPEs (Dr. Salata) for us this year.

New this year also is free HOUSING for these rotations, during blocks 1,2,3, 8, and 9. Rotations are offered at other times; however, no housing is available (it is being used by the medical residents).

See the list below of available APPEs, and let me/Dr. Pschirer by January 13th if you are interested in the UPMC Horizon and/or or the UPMC Jameson APPEs. You could complete multiple blocks there, or travel in pairs and go to the different sites. Remaining blocks will be in the eValue lottery/optimization.

Thank you,
Prof. Skledar
