[Rx2021] APPEs and IPPEs: Returning to PA for Rotations/Experiential Learning for Spring 2021

Dear Students,
As the pandemic continues, we are extremely hopeful that the vaccination efforts will be effective; however, we must continue to be diligent with our efforts to stop further spread of the coronavirus. This includes proper social distancing, wearing PPE, and limiting out-of-area travel. Between January and March of 2021, each of you will be taking part in IPPEs or APPEs in some way. Many students start rotations as early as January 11, 2021. Pennsylvania has implemented travel mitigation orders for those who are returning to PA from another state. (If you have and will remain in PA during this time, this does not apply to you.)

ACTION STEP:  If you have traveled outside of PA prior to your in-person IPPE or APPE rotation, you must have a negative COVID-19 test, or self-quarantine for 10 days after entering PA and before starting on-site at your in-person rotation.

Your rotation site may ask you to provide evidence of the negative test and/or explain that you have self-quarantined. Some of our learning sites have already implemented this. Please read the travel mitigation order below for specific details on timing of testing and quarantine. Specific language in the travel mitigation orders, and suggestions for local testing sites are provided below.

Individuals over the age of 11 traveling into and returning to the Commonwealth from any location outside of the Commonwealth (including international locations) must produce evidence of a negative COVID-19 test or place themselves in travel quarantine for 10 days after entering the Commonwealth, subject to the conditions specified in Section 3 below:
Section 3: Testing
a. The test must be a diagnostic SARS-CoV2 test authorized by the Food and Drug Administration.
b. The test must be from a specimen collected within 72 hours prior to entering the Commonwealth or collected during the 10-day travel quarantine period
