New & Noteworthy: Brandon Antinopoulos Departure August 27, 2020

Tomorrow, Friday August 28, 2020 is Dr. Brandon Antinopoulos’ last day as a member of our PittPharmacy CLIP (Community Leadership and Innovation in Practice) Center. He will be taking a new role at AmerisourceBergen as Community Pharmacy Business Coach.

The constant thread since Brandon’s early days as a student pharmacist has been assisting pharmacists and pharmacies in removing barriers to setting up and being paid for patient care. He did that through a CLIP student project in Beaver County and has continued that process in a different approach as a CLIP Center pharmacist. Brandon will continue that thread with AmerisourceBergen, where he will be a “coach” for over 50 Good Neighbor pharmacies in Western Pennsylvania, Western New York, West Virginia, and Eastern/Central Ohio.

Brandon, a graduate in the Class of 2014, completed a community residency with PittPharmacy/University Pharmacy and went on to lead patient care services at his family’s pharmacy then joined PittPharmacy in 2017. While he has been with us, he has worked closely with Melissa McGivney and other center members, showing leadership in a number of ventures, which will continue after his departure. Brandon has capably:

  * Led the development of “Pop Up” Clinics at Giant Eagle Pharmacy locations for the NIH ALL of US research initiative engaging over 1000 patients to date. Thank you for registering!
  * Took on the role as lead liaison between PittPharmacy and Giant Eagle Pharmacy as new practice models were developed and implemented and the ALL of US research launched.
  * Facilitated and developed coaching methodology for 14 pharmacists supporting 39 independent pharmacies in Pennsylvania as a part of the Community Pharmacy Foundation grant for “Flip the Pharmacy.” These pharmacies have documented over 20,000 patient interventions over the past year, including approximately 17% where blood pressures were taken and addressed with the patient’s prescriber.
  * Served a liaison in a new partnership with Value Drug Company, a drug wholesaler serving independent pharmacies in nine states, to support practice transformation.
  * Hosted “Beyond the Sig”, a podcast series, supported by a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, for pharmacists who are working to transform their community pharmacies.

Brandon has also had a huge impact on student pharmacist learning. Brandon:

  * Developed a new, one-week IPPE immersion course for over 80 P3 students during the current pandemic.
  * Orchestrated the development of a new APPE Master Class for PittPharmacy students to provide patient care in independent pharmacies. In the past four months, over 30 students in 19 locations have completed APPEs.
  * Coordinated the CLIP ARCO summer course and supported students’ projects with partners including the Pennsylvania Pharmacist Care Network, Giant Eagle Pharmacy, Value Drug Company, Klingensmith’s Drug Store and others.
  * Co-led the P2 Community Pharmacist Practice 2 Course where all students engage in nearly 90 community pharmacy locations during the spring term. Managed student documentation and reporting of over 6,000 patient encounters each term.
  * Served as a faculty advisor for the PPA Student Chapter and facilitated participation in Legislative Day.

Above all, Brandon is a strong advocate for our profession, a ready collaborator who seamlessly engages with others, and a true colleague and friend to all. He connects with students and colleagues alike. We will miss him and wish him all the best as he moves to a new position with AmerisourceBergen.

Join me in wishing him well.
