Hello Classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022!

Hope you all have a great summer break!

We wanted to clarify information about pharmacy internship hours reporting requirements for students planning to be licensed as a pharmacist in PA. This year, the reporting requirement was WAIVED for the Class of 2019 by the PA State Board of Pharmacy (SBOP), but this waiver of hours reporting is not yet permanent. We have received multiple questions about whether students need to continue to have their internship preceptors registered with the PA SBOP, and whether internship hours still need to be reported to the PA SBOP.

The answer to both of these questions is YES.

The waiver is not yet permanent, so you would not want to get caught at the end of P4 year without any working internship hours reported to the PA SBOP, if you have worked in PA and/or wish to be licensed in PA. Additionally, there are 5-6 other states that still require internship hours to be reported for licensure examinations, so please continue to report hours to the PA SBOP, or your home state, if intern hours reporting is required there. If you are working in a state that does not require hours reporting, we strongly recommend that you track your hours worked on a spreadsheet and get those signed at the end of each summer by your preceptor there. You may need to provide this documentation when you apply for your licensure exams at the end of P4 year.

We will provide updates if anything changes permanently. For now, please keep reporting.....
