[Rx2021] PPA Elections!

Good Morning!

The time has come for PPA to hold their elections for next year! Please submit interest to pittppa at gmail.com<mailto:pittppa at gmail.com> by 11:59 pm on Tuesday, April 9th! Positions are appointed through an interview process.

Below you will find descriptions of each position and the contact information of the people who currently hold them!

Communications Ambassador: Emily Dell (eed29 at pitt.edu<mailto:eed29 at pitt.edu>)

     *   Update the SPPA Facebook page with photos and events- get access to edit the page from Rachel Rhode

     *   Post in class Facebook page about meeting dates/location

     *   Write articles for the Pennsylvania Pharmacist Magazine (bi-monthly) and the Pitt Capsule (monthly) with updates about our organization

     *   Attend ambassador meetings at the Annual and Midyear Conferences

     *   Bimonthly conference calls with the other schools’ ambassadors

Membership Ambassador: Megha Patel (map273 at pitt.edu<mailto:map273 at pitt.edu>)

o   is responsible for the identification and selection of new members.

o   must attend recruiting events for the sole purpose of meeting and greeting prospective members and this role may also issue letters of invitation to suitable membership candidates.

§  Back to school Picnic (fall)

§  Back to school Luncheon (spring)

o   market the benefits of organizational membership

o   reach out to existing members periodically (either through email or physically speaking in class) about membership and leadership opportunities

o   surveys and learns about the needs, issues and desires of members

o   helps recruit interested and dedicated committee members

o   must send reminders to members on membership expirations

o   must be aware and knowledgeable about the membership process to answer questions anyone may have

o   attend periodic student advisory board conference calls and provide updates on membership.

Government Relations Ambassador: Kiana Green (krg50 at pitt.edu<mailto:krg50 at pitt.edu>)

·      Working with the Government Relations Manager (Angela Zaydon) and with Dr. A to plan Legislative Day, organize an attendance list with all pertinent information, helping to coordinate transportation and prepare materials and schedules for students attending Legislative Day

·      Helping to promote PAC awareness and the 1878 Society in coordination with other members of the E-board

·      Promoting and informing students about GRASP program and working to set up events for students to complete this program

·      Helping the E-board with planning any other events or attending other events

·      Partake in one conference call with the Government Relations Ambassadors from the other schools in early September of each year to make sure the legislative and advocacy responsibilities are clear, ready, and being undertaken. Also partake in another conference call in the spring closer to Legislative Day. Additional call(s) will be held throughout the year to make sure efforts are on track for all of the above responsibilities and/or if a legislative issue warrants a call.

Katy’s Kids Ambassador: Divya Patel (dap133 at pitt.edu<mailto:dap133 at pitt.edu>) and Mara Cubellis (mac466 at pitt.edu<mailto:mac466 at pitt.edu>)

  *   creating educational, child-friendly material about medication safety


  *   setting up events to reach children regarding medication safety, IPPE approving the events, and coordinating with Dean’s Theme Events. Materials are available through Katy’s Kids, however, are expected to also be created by the chair to coincide with Dean’s Theme.


  *    Dean’s Theme, we have collaborated with APhA and SSHP (i.e. Generation Rx and Operation Immunization programs). Collaborating with other organizations is encouraged. Events previously participated in this year were Fall Lights Festival, Boys and Girls Club, and Kidapalooza. Examples of unique materials created for these events are hopscotch boards and twister boards.
