Good morning,

The University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy was selected as the first University in Pennsylvania and the only School of Pharmacy nationally to participate in the Student Spaceflights Experiment Program (SSEP) Mission-13. An experiment from a pharmacy student team, including a mentor, will have their experiment flown onto the International Space Station (ISS) next Spring and performed by an Astronaut then returned to Earth. In addition, that team will have the opportunity to travel to view the launch of their experiment from the Kennedy Space Center and present their results at a national conference in Washington DC .

We are looking for the students that will make the future of research possible. Along with a their mentor, P1/P2 pharmacy students will form teams of 2-3 students each and design an experiment including writing a proposal. Student teams should plan on committing ~ 1-3 hours per week beginning now until December, to plan, review, and write a proposal for an experiment to be flown to the International Space Station in Spring of 2019.

No previous experience is required. This is a competition style program designed to provide students with an exciting and unique research experience.

For any students interested in dipping a toe in research, learning about the Area of Concentration in Research, or just wanting to see science expand based on new opportunities with research in Space, reply with your name and email to learn more about the program. John Donehoo, Ravi Patel and Kerry Empey are the primary points of contact and support for anything needed. You can learn more through our in-person meetings (below) or just by replying to this email. We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

John Donehoo (donehoojp at upmc.edu)
Kerry Empey (kme33 at pitt.edu)
Ravi Patel (Rmp40 at pitt.edu)
