Dear P2 Students:

Welcome to your P2 Community Pharmacist Practice 2 Course! This year's course will focus on contemporary community pharmacy practice and developing your skills to meet patient medication-related needs in the community. Specifically, you will be introduced to each of the skill areas you will need to build a patient care practice including communication methods, practice management strategies, and patient care techniques. The course is designed to be interactive for both you and your preceptor.

Site placement for this academic year was based on your preferences and work experience. Your assignment is now available in E*Value. To find your site, please run your Schedule Report by going to the Reports tab, and then clicking on Schedule Report on the right side of the screen. Select the curriculum of _18-19 P2 and then hit Next. Your report will appear.

Below are some details about your experience:

  * You are required to spend two 8-hour sessions at your site during finals week in the Fall Term and 8 hours per week for nine additional weeks in the Spring Term, for a total of 80 hours for the entire experience. The School has set aside Thursday, December 13, Friday, December 14, 2018, and every Friday in the Spring term starting in mid-January 2019 to perform your experiential learning activities. There are four Friday all-day workshops in the Spring term where you are required to be on campus (January 11, February 1, March 1, and April 12, 2019) to attend a keynote lecture, skills workshop, small group debrief sessions, and discussions. Your preceptors will also be invited to attend these sessions where they can receive continuing education credit.

  * Preceptors are being notified during the week of November 16th. You are required to contact your preceptor between December 3 - December 7, 2018, but no later than December 7th. This should be a brief phone call introduction to confirm your attendance at the site for December 13 and 14, 2018 and into the Spring.
  * Additional key dates, December 3rd 8-8:50am and December 7th, 9:00 - 9-:50am CCP1 class session to introduce Community Pharmacy experience.

  * December 11th 12:00-12:45 pm 524 Salk Hall - Open Coffee and Conversation with Drs. Antinopoulos and McGivney to discuss questions and preparation for IPPE experience.
  * You are responsible for your own transportation to and from the pharmacy site. Please check the Port Authority website at http://www.portauthority.org/paac/default.aspx<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.portauthority.org%2Fpaac%2Fdefault.aspx&data=02%7C01%7C%7C77868b76d0704bf60f5808d64580d3b9%7C9ef9f489e0a04eeb87cc3a526112fd0d%7C1%7C0%7C636772817880052796&sdata=PEE8%2Bc9s5viK%2BVySnUmTrH7laj3at6HIecT8SR%2BQoho%3D&reserved=0> for bus routes and schedules. Note that some locations may require a bus transfer. For sites accepting two students, you may want to make arrangements to car pool with your classmate if possible.
  * Included are the quick reference lists of where all students are assigned.

Please remember that you are a representative of the School and the future of our profession. You are expected to act and dress professionally, wearing your white lab coat with your name at all times in the pharmacy unless directed otherwise by your preceptor. On-time arrival at the site is expected. You are to call the preceptor as soon as possible prior to a session if you are unable to attend due to illness or emergency. An email should also be sent to Ms. Anna Schmotzer noting your absence from the site. The email should include your make-up date/time.

During your time at the pharmacy, you are under the direct supervision of the pharmacist preceptor or their designee. By law, they are responsible for all of your activities at the site. You must work under their direct supervision at all times.

We are looking forward to this academic year as you explore community pharmacy practice. As with all learning, what you give determines what you get from the experience. We will be working with you, your preceptors, and faculty to guide this course. Please feel free to contact Dr. McGivney, Dr. Antinopoulos, Professor Skledar, or Dr. Pschirer with any questions. Questions directly related to the pharmacy sites can be
directed to Ms. Anna Schmotzer at (412) 624-8186 or annas at pitt.edu<mailto:annas at pitt.edu>.
