Dear incoming P1 students,

I’m Thomas Waters, Director of New Media, and I want to welcome you to the Pitt School of Pharmacy. I have three items for you, and I’ll start with my request first.

We operate a team of student volunteers, cal the Tech Resource Team. These individuals step up and assist if faculty or guest lecturers are having difficulty with the classroom technology. The school provides training, and it isn’t very hard. We like to have two or three students in each professional year. If you feel good with technology, and would like to join this volunteer team, please email me directly. The training for the team will be held either next week or the following week, depending upon how quickly I get volunteers. I’m also happy to answer any questions you might have about this.

There is also a resource, I want to point out in case you aren’t already aware, called the PharmD Student Portal (or PoRxtal) http://students.pharmacy.pitt.edu. On the site are links to pretty much every resource within the school that you need, including a class page, and pages for all of the school organizations. Most areas of the PoRxtal do not require login, but some areas utilize your Pitt username and password.

A note about usernames- While a number of resources here at Pitt allow you to login with your username (ex: waterstc) or your email (ex: waterstc at pitt.edu<mailto:waterstc at pitt.edu>). If something specifically asks for you username, please try it alone, rather than your email.

On the PoRxtal, you will find a “site” for your class. http://students.pharmacy.pitt.edu/classof2021/. On it is a calendar, and links to announcements, and semester files. The great thing about the calendar, is that you can “subscribe” to it and then all of your classes will be in your personal calendar automatically. However, I need a student to help with entering the data from the grid. If you would like to do this and help out your class, please reach out to me.

If you have any questions about technology, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. If I’m not the best person to assist you, I’ll make sure your question gets to the right person, and Hail to Pitt!
