Mark announced their decision at the ASEEES Board meeting in November 2012. After 17 years as managing editor, Jane decided to retire from the position for health reasons. Consequently, Mark also decided that it would be best for him to step down as the editor. Mark took over the editorship from Diane Koenker in 2006 and has done a tremendous job in putting together issues that displayed the breadth and significance of our field. Both Mark and Diane would tell you that Jane has been the heart of the journal, playing a vital role in maintaining the high quality of the journal. Please look for a longer piece on Jane’s contributions to Slavic Review in the June issue of NewsNet.

Upon Mark’s announcement, the Board agreed that we should try to find an editor amongst the U of Illinois faculty to finish out our 5-year contract with Illinois (which runs until August 2016). We are delighted to announce that Harriet Murav agreed to serve as the editor from August 16, 2013 to August 15, 2016. Harriet is Professor of Slavic Languages and Literatures; she specializes in 19th century Russian literature and culture, Jewish studies, and women’s studies.
