The webinar explores the changing representations of borders in early modern and modern times. Based of Brian Harley's approach of critical cartography, participants will learn to analyze the arrangements of power and knowledge in visual sources using examples from the Baltic Sea provinces and the Habsburg Empire and her successor states. After examining printed maps, the participants will learn about digital maps, including the challenges of digital humanities and how GIS-data transform our understanding of borders in European history.
