Dear Members:
2018 Webinar Series begins Feb 7
We are launching professional development webinars offered by the Herder Institute for Historical Research on East-Central Europe. This series is sponsored by ASEEES, EUSA, the University of Pittsburgh's Center for Russian and East European Studies and the ESC.
February 7, 2018 (12pm EST): German-speaking Academia: A Road Map to Navigating Research Institutions beyond Universities
Germany provides a highly developed network of university and non-university expertise for Eastern Europe and the post-Soviet states. The first webinar, in the series presented by Peter Haslinger (Herder Institute), provides a survey of all existing centers and institutions, and gives an overview about their regional focus, research hubs, collections and infrastructures. The discussion will include centers located in Austria and Switzerland. Moreover, participants will gain insight into the present state and future development of East European Studies in all these three countries and will learn how to organize a research trip and how to find the best opportunity for individual topics.

First Book Subvention deadline is Feb 1
In 2014, the ASEEES Board of Directors voted to dedicate $10,000 per year from the Association's endowment dividends for subvention of books by first-time authors who have already secured publishing contracts. Multiple awards of up to $2,500 will be made on a competitive basis each year, with funds paid directly to the press. We invite applications from all disciplines.
