[ASEEES] Act Now to Stop Title VI and Fulbright-Hays Funding Cuts

Dear ASEEES Members:

This request for advocacy action directed at members residing in the US, with apologies to those not residing in the US.

We are dismayed that the US Senate Appropriations Committee approved a $25 million or 35% reduction to the Department of Education's Title VI and Fulbright-Hays programs. The Senate's proposed reduction comes after major cuts just five years ago, and if enacted, would amount to a $79 million or 63% decrease in funding since 2010. This cut would be devastating to the National Resources Centers and FLAS Fellowship programs at universities, the Language Resource Centers, and the Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Fellowships and Group Projects Abroad, to name some of the affected programs.

We do not often make direct appeals to our membership for action, but we must speak out now to prevent the drastic funding cut. Congressional staffers are telling us that no one is speaking up for these programs; we need to show them that the programs are supported by their constituents. Go to our webpage for more information with a link to the online e-mail/social media campaign to tell your Congress members not to cut funding to Title VI and Fulbright-Hays: http://www.aseees.org/advocacy/act-now-stop-cuts-title-vi-fulbright-hays

Please share widely.

We thank the National Humanities Alliance for setting up the online advocacy campaign.

Best,
