[ASEEES] URGENT - How to Voice Support Title VI, Fulbright-Hays, and FLAS

Dear ASEEES Members:

We write to report on how ASEEES has been responding to the latest funding climate in Washington, and how all of us as members can make an effort to support the programming, teaching, and research that so many ASEEES members advance through their work.

When Congress passed the recent 2011 budget, they included a possible 40%, or $ 50 million, cut in the Title VI/Fulbright-Hays budget.

To respond in the kinds of terms that Washington often invokes, ASEEES -- as part of the Coalition for International Education -- has been working hard to let Congress and the Department of Education know of the detrimental impact such a budget cut would have on the global competence of US citizens and our competitive standing, more broadly.

Many of our institutional members, especially at universities with Title VI centers, have also been working on their end to inform our federal officials how important Title VI funding is. Now is the time that we understand that individual voices can also be effective.

To this end, the National Humanities Alliance has set up a call for action below. The future of Title VI, FLAS grants, and Fulbright-Hays funding is in question. If your career has benefited from these programs, we urge you to write in and speak up. By visiting the URL below, you can see easy instructions for communicating with government representatives:
